Working on this drawing inspired by Christa Black Gifford’s Heart Made Whole.
I’ve always seen my heart as my enemy. As something to be suspicious of. Something that couldn’t be trusted because it betrays me. It hurts me. I guess that’s why I never liked emotions, wished I didn’t have them, and suppressed them.
But the heart is a friend. I need to look after it. It tells me what’s wrong so I can deal with it and do something to set it right. I need to listen to it and accept it instead of ignore it and deny it. I need to get up close to my heart instead of turn away from it.
